aircraft arresting barrier
(DOD, NATO) A device, not dependent on an aircraft arresting hook, used to stop an aircraft by absorbing its forward momentum in an emergency landing or an aborted takeoff. Also called barricade; emergency barrier. See also aircraft arresting system.
