Area to the seaward and on the flanks of the outer transport and landing ship areas, but preferably inside the area screen, for launching and/or recovering vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. Also called VTOL aircraft transport area. See also vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. (JP 3-02)
